What is that magnificent creature? Right here in front of you stands The Calling, a majestic sculpture of a loon. This isn’t just any loon. Towering over three stories high with an impressive wingspan of 89 feet, The Calling is a sight to behold. This isn’t your typical bronze or stone statue. The Calling is made from over 5,000 hand-cut metal “feathers,” meticulously pieced together. International artist Andy Scott wanted to capture the essence of Minnesota’s state bird in its full glory. He envisioned the loon emerging from the water, wings spread wide, ready to take flight. The result is this breathtaking sculpture, a symbol of strength, legacy, and the spirit of Minnesota. The Calling is a gift to the community, commissioned by the William and Nadine McGuire Family Foundation. It stands as a testament to their vision of making art accessible and inspiring to all. So take a moment to appreciate the intricate details, the sheer scale, and the powerful presence of The Calling. Let it remind you of the beauty and resilience found in the North Star State.
