Nestled in Skæring a green playground with old trees surrounds Stenhøj. Stenhøj is more than just a daycare. It’s a vibrant community. A place where children’s laughter echoes through the years. Since April 2001 Stenhøj has welcomed hundreds of children. They’ve explored its green spaces. They’ve learned and grown together. Stenhøj has nurtured their social skills. It has boosted their self-esteem. The daycare has three groups: a nursery group for children aged 0 to 2.6 years. A middle group for 2.6 to 3.6 year olds and a kindergarten group for 3.6 to 6-year-olds. There’s even a larger group for children ready for school. The children are divided into groups. Each group has dedicated adults. But the staff works together across groups. This creates a warm and supportive atmosphere. The children feel seen heard understood and valued. Stenhøj believes in open doors. Children move freely between spaces. They know each other. They know the adults. This familiarity creates a safe and inspiring environment. The daycare has both indoor and outdoor play areas. There are workshops. There are playhouses. There’s even an obstacle course. The children go on regular outings. These are small groups accompanied by adults. They explore the local area. Stenhøj offers a structured daily program. It begins at 6:30 am. Breakfast is provided for those who need it. Morning assemblies include singing rhymes and dancing. Fruit or bread is served. Activities include singing reading dancing gymnastics role-playing drawing and arts and crafts. Sometimes they even visit a trampoline park. Outdoor play is a priority every day of the year. Lunch and afternoon snacks are provided. The children learn table manners and independence. They help each other. Stenhøj has a food policy. The daycare mostly uses organic products. Sugar is restricted for the younger children. Older children have occasional treats. Parents have a say in meal planning. They vote on a shared lunch program every two years. Parents participate actively. They’re involved in their children’s daily lives. Parent-teacher meetings are held at least five times a year. Stenhøj is constantly evolving. The staff is always working to improve its pedagogy. It’s a place of joy learning and growth.
