Over 90000 LEDs twinkle. Welcome to the Weihnachtshaus Neureut a Karlsruhe spectacle.
This isn’t just a house decked for Christmas. It’s a labor of love a testament to the ingenuity of Thorsten Grueger. Since 2011 he has transformed his home into a dazzling winter wonderland. It began modestly. A simple garland of warm white LEDs and a few imported ice-cicle lights.
But the positive feedback fueled his ambition. He started adding more lights and special effects. A pixel tree appeared. Window frames were illuminated. By 2016 a singing tree and a singing Santa joined the display. Their mouths moved in sync with the music.
Then came the real technological leap. He upgraded to individually controllable LEDs. This allowed him to create stunning animated images across the entire house. Imagine Elsa from Frozen gliding across a window display. Or Olaf the snowman wobbling merrily in the garden. This is the Weihnachtshaus Neureut.
The annual switch-on party is a community event. It started small. Now it’s a full-blown celebration. Hotdogs and Glühwein are served. Donations collected are generously given to the Karlsruhe children’s hospice. In 2017 300 euro were raised. The following year the amount doubled to 500 euro.
Thorsten builds many of the LED elements himself. He carefully inserts the lights into custom-made holders. Then he connects them all. He uses a special US software program called xLights. This lets him program the lights to synchronize with music.
The 2017 display was particularly impressive. A giant 6-meter MegaTree towered over the courtyard. It boasts over 43000 LEDs crowned by an 800-LED star. Two LED displays lit up the windows. The house shimmered with more than 90000 LEDs. This is the true spirit of the Weihnachtshaus Neureut.
In 2018 the show’s theme was Christmas Around the World. The house danced in the colors of various countries. It even featured scenes from Disney’s Frozen. The detail was increased by tripling the number of LEDs.
Every year offers something new. Every year Thorsten and his helpers work tirelessly for weeks. They dedicate themselves to making the Weihnachtshaus Neureut shine. Their efforts bring joy and holiday spirit to the entire neighborhood. It’s a true Karlsruhe gem. So come experience the magic. The Weihnachtshaus Neureut awaits.
