Sunnyvale High School’s history began with a vision. In 2007 Sunnyvale ISD residents approved a bond for a high school. Construction started in spring 2008. The doors of Sunnyvale High School opened in 2009.

Before Sunnyvale High School existed students attended high school elsewhere. They went to the Mesquite Independent School District. North Mesquite High School was their designated school. Imagine the excitement when Sunnyvale got its own high school.

The first class graduated in 2011. The class of 2013 was the first to attend all four years on campus. The class of 2014 was the first to go through the new middle school and high school.

Sunnyvale High School offers various sports. The Sunnyvale Raiders compete in cross country and volleyball. They also play football and basketball. There is also soccer, swimming, and powerlifting. Students can participate in golf, tennis, track, softball, and baseball. Sunnyvale High School has won state championships in baseball in 2014. The girls basketball team won in 2015. The girls track and field team won in 2016.

Sunnyvale High School is committed to academic excellence. In 2011 the Texas Education Agency rated the school “Exemplary”. Sunnyvale High School has maintained high standards.

The school has about 640 students. Sunnyvale High School had a graduation rate of 98.7% in 2021. The average SAT score was 1098. The average ACT score was 23.6. Sunnyvale High School provides a supportive environment. The student-to-teacher ratio is about 13.7 to 1. Teachers have an average of 13.5 years of experience.

Sunnyvale High School prepares students for college. A large percentage of graduates are considered college ready. Sunnyvale High School’s mascot is the Raider. The school colors are blue and gold.
