This magnificent Buddhist temple was first constructed in 1656 during the Qing dynasty. Chan master Zongtang initiated its creation. Over the centuries Renshou Temple has undergone numerous renovations. Monk Yulin rebuilt the shanmen in 1669. Monk Renji undertook further reconstruction in 1851. In 1935 Li Peixian a Chinese Tantric monk donated property for the Ruyi Pagoda. Venerable Master Hsu Yun conducted its canonization ceremony in 1938. The Communist government briefly used Renshou Temple as a granary in 1952. After the Cultural Revolution Xu Yeping and other Buddhists funded its rebuilding in 1982. Shi Dashan became its abbot. Renshou Temple finally reopened to the public on June 29 1998. The temple’s architectural splendor is undeniable. The main structures include the Shanmen the Mahavira Hall and the Ruyi Pagoda. This seven-story octagonal pagoda boasts Tibetan tablets plaques and over ten porcelain Buddha statues.
