“What is God up to?” Mill City Church seems to constantly ask itself. Mill City Church is more than just a place of worship. It is a vibrant community in Northeast Minneapolis. The church’s story is one of growth and partnership. It began with a small group in 2008. They felt called to start a new church. Woodridge Church supported this new venture.
“Mill City” is an old nickname for Minneapolis. The church embraces this history. Its mission is to love the community in Jesus’ name. They seek to discover God’s work in neighborhoods, workplaces, and schools. Mill City Church desires to join God in these spaces. They aim to love others as Jesus did.
Mill City Church defines itself through action. They reproduce missional disciples. These disciples learn to follow Jesus. They participate in God’s mission in every aspect of their lives. These disciples love God. They live like Jesus. They are led by the Spirit.
The church is led by a team of pastors and staff. Their goal is to equip the church. They want to enable the church to live out its mission. Covenant Members take ownership of this mission.
Mill City Church has key partners in Northeast Minneapolis. They founded Every Meal. This organization fights child hunger in the Twin Cities. Hope Ave Twin Cities is another key partner. It is an outreach ministry serving the homeless. Elim Church started Hope Ave in 2006.
Worship services happen every Sunday. They take place at 685 13th Ave NE. There are three services at 9 am, 10:45 am, and 5 pm. The church also streams services live on Facebook and YouTube. Children’s programs are available during all three services. Student ministry meets on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. It is for 6th-12th graders.
During the week, people gather in discipleship groups. Mill City Neighborhoods also meet throughout the Twin Cities. These groups live out the church’s mission in local areas. Mill City encourages everyone to explore these groups.
In 2019, Mill City helped launch North City Church. It is located across the river in North Minneapolis. Espiritu Santo Iglesia joined the family in 2021. This predominantly Spanish-speaking church expanded the network. Together, they form the Agile Church Network.
A significant event occurred in 2023. Elim Church joined Mill City Church. Leaders recognized God’s hand in bringing these communities together. Mill City adopted Elim Church as it was sunsetted.
Mill City values established church partnerships. They believe the church should multiply. This allows more people to connect with God. It helps them connect with others and join God’s mission. The church seeks to always respond to what God is doing. They focus on Northeast Minneapolis.
Mill City Church embodies its mission. It adapts to the changing needs of its community. It shows the power of unity and shared purpose. Mill City Church isn’t confined by its walls. It goes beyond them.
