Can you picture the humble beginnings of Zion Temple Church of God in Christ? It started in 1954, a simple prayer group on Indiana Avenue, a small step towards a greater vision. Pastor Edward Booker, a young man with a strong faith, led the congregation, his heart filled with the ambition to spread God’s word. This was the birth of Zion Temple, a church born from a desire to serve and a commitment to community.
In 1956, the little prayer group moved. Their new home – a church on Springfield Avenue – was affectionately known as the “Holy Ghost Headquarters.” The energy there must have been incredible, a vibrant hub of faith and hope.
The church continued to expand, moving again in 1967 to Harding Avenue, then to their current location on Pulaski Road. It’s a testament to Pastor Booker’s leadership and the spirit of cooperation within the congregation, embodied by the motto: “If it can be done, we can do it.” This wasn’t just a church, it was a community – a family of faith that grew and persevered, reaching out to serve others with unwavering dedication.
