Construction began in 1986. The old village hall was too small. Tinley Park’s population had nearly tripled. A new larger facility was needed. The new building boasts 14000 square feet of space. It features a spacious lobby with an 18-foot ceiling and skylights.
Constitution Hall is a highlight. This is where the Village Board meets. The red carpeting and red upholstered seating add to the room’s grandeur.
But the story of Tinley Park Village Hall isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about people. It’s about the decisions made within its walls. It’s about the community it serves. The hall’s construction wasn’t without challenges. Economic uncertainty and high costs delayed the project. However the village persevered. The result is a modern functional facility that serves the community effectively.
A Veterans Memorial Plaza stands alongside the hall. It honors those who served our country. This 200-square-foot plaza hosts patriotic events. Flags representing the United States Illinois and Tinley Park proudly fly there. Thirteen smaller poles display historic flags on holidays.
The dedication ceremony in 1987 was a grand affair. The Fourth Army Band and the Bluejacket Choir performed. Edward Derwinski a U.S. Under Secretary of State was the featured speaker. A time capsule was also buried. It’s filled with messages from the community. It won’t be opened until 2087.
