Near Fritz Hughes Park Road and Low Water Crossing Road, disaster struck. Her patrol car was caught in the torrent, dragged away by the unforgiving current. She managed to radio a distress call, her voice a testament to her courage in the face of danger. The Jessica Hollis Memorial Plaque marks the spot close to where it happened. Her car was found 15 agonizing minutes later, but Deputy Hollis was gone. Divers recovered her body from Lake Austin’s depths the same day, a tragic end for a woman dedicated to the safety of others.
