“Have you ever prayed among the clouds?” I ask you. Here at Masjid Ar-Rahim, you almost can. This isn’t your typical mosque. Masjid Ar-Rahim is perched on the 27th floor of Menara 165. That’s right, we are in the highest mosque in Jakarta.
Now, let’s dive into the story of Masjid Ar-Rahim. It’s more than just a place to pray. It’s a symbol of faith, art, and philosophy. Construction of this unique mosque began on May 16, 2001. Dr Ary Ginanjar Agustian, a motivator and founder of Leadership Center, initiated it. But Menara 165 wasn’t completed until June 1, 2005. Only then did Masjid Ar-Rahim find its home atop the tower.
The panoramic views are breathtaking. Large glass walls surround the prayer space. They offer worshipers an unhindered view of Jakarta. You can see the city stretching out beneath you. It makes for a truly unique and inspiring prayer experience.
Masjid Ar-Rahim covers 400 square meters. As you walked up the 25 steps to enter it, did you realize that these steps symbolize the 25 prophets recognized in Islam?
Look at the building’s exterior. Notice the আল্লাহ لفظ Allah decoration that illuminates at night. Menara 165’s name has a double meaning. It represents religious and national values. The number 1 signifies Ikhsan. Six represents the pillars of faith. Five symbolizes the pillars of Islam.
The building’s design reflects these meanings. A hexagon crown represents the six pillars of faith. Pillars on the building’s corners represent the five pillars of Islam. Thus, 165 embodies the union of religious devotion and love for Indonesia.
Masjid Ar-Rahim is open to the public. People come here not only to pray but also to enjoy the views. The mosque also hosts interactive studies every Wednesday and recitations every Sunday. It’s truly a religious tourist destination, especially during Ramadan.
To access the mosque, register at the Menara 165 reception. Exchange your ID for an access card. Take lift L6 to the 25th floor, marked M1. From there, you can take the stairs or another lift to the 27th floor.
