Longfield Academy’s story began with the merging of Axton Chase School and Longfield Comprehensive. The academy occupies part of the former site of Axton Chase School. Axton Chase School closed in 2010. The old buildings were demolished. New housing was built there. Longfield Academy moved into its new buildings in July 2011. The academy has 998 pupils now.
The academy is part of the Leigh Academies Trust. The Leigh Academies Trust includes 22 other academies. They all share one governing body. A chief executive officer leads them. They are based at the Trust offices.
Longfield Academy aims to provide students with new ways to learn. The academy strives to help students reach their full potential. Longfield Academy offers an iPad scheme. These iPads are for use in everyday education. The academy provides students with free Chromebooks in year 7.
Dr. Felix Donkor is the principal of Longfield Academy. The academy is structured around three colleges. They serve as small schools. This model provides pastoral care for students. Each college has two tutor groups per year. This fosters strong links within the community.
Longfield Academy received a “Good” rating in its inspection on September 26, 2023. The quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management were all rated as “Good”. The sixth form provision was rated as “Outstanding”.
