“Ready to feel the electric buzz?” The Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit awaits. It is not just a track. It is a symbol of Jakarta’s ambition and commitment to a greener future.

This 2.370 km circuit in Ancol was purpose-built for the Jakarta ePrix. The ePrix is part of the Formula E Championship for electric cars. The first Jakarta ePrix was held here in 2022.

Initially proposed in July 2019, the race faced location challenges. The National Monument and Merdeka Square were rejected. Even Gelora Bung Karno Stadium was considered but scrapped. Five locations were proposed. These were Jenderal Sudirman Street, Indah Kapuk Beach, Jakarta International Expo, Jakarta International Stadium, and Ancol region. Ancol was finally chosen in January 2022.

Construction began in 2022. Anies Baswedan then Governor of Jakarta officially opened the Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit in January 2022. The track was ready just a week before the ePrix.

The Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit boasts 18 corners. The layout is inspired by Kuda Lumping. This is a traditional Javanese dance representing horse-riding troops. The track runs clockwise. It features a 600-meter start and finish line straight.

Turn 1 is a wide right-hander. It offers multiple racing lines for overtaking. Two right-handers and two fast left-handers follow. These lead to the mall straight. A tricky S-section connects double left-right 90-degree turns to a straight. Turn 13 is a hairpin. It demands heavy braking. A right-left kink comes next. Turn 16 has widening and banking for attack-mode activation. The lap concludes with a fast left-hander and a sharp right-hander.

Formula E driver Lucas di Grassi described it well. He said the Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit has a good mix of low medium and high-speed corners. The circuit tests every aspect of car performance.

Jake Dennis set the fastest official race lap. He achieved a time of 1:09.171 in his Porsche 99X Electric during the 2023 Jakarta ePrix.

Jakarta is a sprawling metropolis. It is the largest city in Southeast Asia. It faces challenges from climate change and sinking land. The Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit symbolizes the city’s move towards sustainability. The goal is to be all-EV by 2050.

The Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit is not just for Formula E. It is open to Ancol Beach resort and other motorsport events. It acts as a focal point for Indonesia’s electric vehicle drive. This circuit represents Jakarta’s commitment to a greener future. It combines racing excitement with environmental responsibility.
