Did you know that a small town in Australia was named after a place in Canada? This is a true story! Sherbrooke is a small locality in Victoria, Australia, about 35 km east of Melbourne. It is a place full of lush greenery and captivating history. As you stand here in Sherbrooke, imagine the town back in 1893. This is when Robert W. Graham, a sea captain, moved here with his family. He had spent eight years in Quebec, Canada, and so he decided to name this new town after the town in Canada where he called home. This is why Sherbrooke, here in Australia, also carries this name. The town has always been a popular haven for locals and visitors alike. Known for its serene beauty and peaceful ambiance, Sherbrooke offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. You can enjoy a stroll through the captivating Sherbrooke Forest, a cool temperate rainforest, listed as endangered, and take a hike to catch a glimpse of Sherbrooke Falls, originally named Graham Falls by Mr Graham. It looks especially stunning after a good shower of rain. But to enjoy its beauty, you need to spend a bit of time on a 2.4 km walk! This is a loop walk through the forest with many tall trees, rising on either side of the track, to reach those magical falls. Today, Sherbrooke has several lovely gardens, parks, and walking trails.
