Amazon Flooded Forest

Slithering through the dense foliage, an anaconda patiently waits for its next meal. This, my friends, is the Amazon Flooded Forest at River Wonders. Here, the Amazon rainforest’s annual flooding is recreated, offering a unique glimpse into a submerged world. The Amazon Flooded Forest exhibit was meticulously designed after extensive research at Peru’s Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. The team even recorded sounds of the Amazon to enhance the immersive experience within the exhibit. Fallen branches, hanging vines, and specific plants were introduced to mimic the flooded forest environment. The Amazon Flooded Forest houses the world’s largest freshwater aquarium, an impressive 22 meters long and 4 meters wide. A walk through its underwater tunnel brings you face-to-face with fascinating creatures. Marvel at the gentle manatees as they glide through the water. Observe the electric eel, capable of stunning a horse with its electric discharge. Don’t be fooled by the piranhas’ small size and sparkling appearance. Their sharp teeth can even bite through steel fishing hooks. Look closely, and you might spot the giant river otters, sometimes growing up to 1.8 meters long, playing in their luxurious enclosure. These adorable creatures are known to prey on piranhas, so don’t underestimate their playful nature. From the bottom to the top of the flooded forest exhibit, the circular route offers various viewing angles. You can witness the manatees’ slow, graceful movements and watch them feast on cabbages in their “buffet section”. From above, you’ll get an overview of the entire flooded forest and another view of the giant river otters’ exhibit. One of these otters holds the title of “Asia’s first giant river otter baby,” a testament to River Wonders’ conservation efforts. The Amazon Flooded Forest truly captures the essence of the Amazon during its flood season, offering a unique and memorable experience.
