Kármán Tódor Kollégium has a rich history. Its doors opened on August 20 1966. Initially, it housed journalists and referees of the European Athletic Championship. Imagine the halls filled with discussions of sports and competition.

The building was primarily intended for students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. However, Kármán Tódor Kollégium soon welcomed students from other faculties too. By 1969, it became the primary residence for mechanical engineering students.

Did you know it was once called Dr. Münnich Ferenc Kollégium? That was its name until 1990. For a time it was even known as the “Excellent College”. This honor was given to it three times. The name Kármán Tódor Kollégium honors a former student of the university. He was a renowned engineer.

Locals often call it “Ezres Kollégium”. This nickname means “Thousand Dormitory”. It refers to its capacity to house one thousand students. It is a large building capable of housing many students.

The dormitory’s location is ideal. It sits near the Buda side of Petőfi Bridge. Students can quickly reach the university in about five minutes on foot. Its central location made it easy to get around.

In the early 2000s Kármán Tódor Kollégium needed renovation. The building was renovated in 2006 and 2007. The updated Kármán Tódor Kollégium offers modern amenities.

Each double room has cold and hot water. Every room is equipped with a refrigerator. Students share kitchens and laundry facilities on each floor. Common rooms, lounges and a library are also available. These spaces foster community and collaboration.
