Why is that child painting “One Nation Under CCTV” on the wall? Welcome to the site of Banksy’s thought-provoking Children’s mural, originally titled “One Nation Under CCTV”. This isn’t just any mural. It’s a statement. Located on Newman Street in London, this 2007 artwork sparked controversy and conversation. The mural showed a young child, dressed in a red hoodie, meticulously painting the phrase “One Nation Under CCTV” on a wall. A police officer and a dog watched the child intently, highlighting the themes of surveillance and freedom of expression. Interestingly, the mural was positioned right next to a real CCTV camera, adding another layer to Banksy’s commentary on modern society. In 2008, Westminster City Council deemed the Children’s mural an “unlicensed commercial” and ordered its removal. Despite public outcry and Banksy’s own statement defending his art, the mural was painted over in April 2009. Though the physical mural is gone, its image and message continue to resonate.
