Built in 1871 the Çadır Köşk stands proudly. It’s a testament to Ottoman artistry. Located in Istanbul’s Yıldız Park this pavilion is one of two historical kiosks. Commissioned by Sultan Abdülaziz it was designed by the renowned Balyan brothers. They were masters of their craft. The Çadır Köşk served as a viewing and resting place. It was a retreat for the palace inhabitants. Imagine leisurely strolls through the gardens. Imagine enjoying the breathtaking views of the Bosphorus.

The Çadır Köşk’s upper floor boasts an elegant room. There is a grand hall a toilet and a small hall. A staircase leads down to the basement. This basement housed two large rooms a hall and a toilet. It was originally intended as a kitchen. The large hall’s ceiling is a masterpiece. It’s adorned with cascading flowers. Amongst them are painted ducks giraffes deer horses and flower baskets. The artistry is breathtaking. The details are exquisite. The two adjacent rooms follow the same pattern. Their ceilings are similarly embellished. Animals like ducks camels cows sheep and birds are meticulously painted. Flower baskets and branches add to the scenic splendour. The entire design perfectly showcases the exquisite skills of decorative arts. The two large windows and doors reflect the architectural styles of that era.

After Sultan Abdülhamid took residence in the Yıldız Palace. The Çadır Köşk’s surrounding wall was raised. Previously open gates were secured. Ironically the Çadır Köşk’s basement became a holding cell. It held the suspects of Abdülaziz’s assassination. After Abdülhamid’s reign the Çadır Köşk remained closed for many years. In 1940 the Ministry of Finance transferred it. It was transferred to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. After Yıldız Park was opened to the public the Çadır Köşk was restored. From 1949 to 1960 a pastry chef named Avedis Çakır ran a pastry shop there. In 1960 under the military coup the Tanzimat Museum was established within its walls. In 1982 management was given to TÜRSAB. In 1995 the Council for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets oversaw renovations. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality took over in June 1995. Restoration work started immediately. The Çadır Köşk underwent a complete restoration.

Today the Çadır Köşk stands as a symbol. It stands as a symbol of Ottoman elegance and resilience. It’s a reminder of a bygone era. It whispers tales of sultans and assassinations. It showcases the artistic prowess of a bygone era. It continues to captivate visitors with its grandeur.
