Skovby experienced a significant population boom. This growth started in the 1960s. Before that, Skovby was a small village. It had a small cooperative and a school. The school had only three classes. On August 1, 1974, Skovbyskolen opened. It featured dental hygiene facilities. There were four classes at each grade level. This period also saw the addition of a sports hall and several daycare facilities.
The population growth largely consisted of families with children. As the children grew up and moved away, the number of classes decreased. Today Skovbyskolen has 729 students. These students are spread across grades 0-9. There are three to four classes per grade.
“Skråvejen” was established as a children’s institution in 1978. In 1999, it was renamed Skråvejens SFO. In 2001, it moved into Skovbyskolen. It now has approximately 190 registered children. These children are from 0th to 2nd grade.
Skovbyskolen also offers special programs. Columbusskolen is a special school program. It has 35 students. The students are divided into five classes. The classes are based on their academic, social, and emotional development. There are eight teachers and seven educators employed here.
Center Skovby has 23 students. These students are between 13 and 17 years old. They may have social, emotional, or specific learning difficulties. Several students have diagnoses. These diagnoses include autism spectrum disorder or ADHD.
In 2013, a new footbridge was built. Raised wooden paths were created. These were on both sides of the stream. However, crossing the stream is only possible. It is possible during the driest part of the year. The project aimed to raise the stream’s water level. It also aimed to create new wetlands. The footbridge is part of a hiking route. The route is under the national project “Tracks in the Landscape”. The route is 10.1 km long. It starts and ends at Skovbyskolen.
Skovbyskolen continues to be a vital part of Skovby. It provides education and support to its students. It also adapts to the changing needs of the community.
