Established in 1947 as the Curso de Tática Aérea the Escola de Aperfeiçoamento de Oficiais da Aeronáutica EAOAR has a rich history. Initially based in Cumbica the school quickly recognized a need for leadership and administration training. This led to its transformation in 1953 into the EAOAR we know today. Its mission expanded to include officer training. The EAOAR prepared officers for leadership and command roles.

Initially the EAOAR offered several courses. These courses included the Curso de Aperfeiçoamento para Oficiais Aviadores CAPOA and the Curso de Oficiais de Serviços CAPOS. In 1961 the school moved to its own facilities. It also introduced the Curso de Aperfeiçoamento de Oficiais Especialistas CAPOE. A Curso de Preparação de Instrutores replaced the Curso de Instrutores Acadêmicos.

By 1968 all courses were streamlined. The school offered only two main courses: Tactics and Advanced Training. The Tactics course was exclusively for aviator officers. The Advanced Training course was for all officer branches. Later the Tactics course moved to Natal-RN. In 1984 a significant change occurred. The EAOAR relocated to Campo dos Afonsos in Rio de Janeiro. This was due to the creation of the Universidade da Força Aérea UNIFA.

The EAOAR continued to evolve. In 1986 the Curso de Preparação de Instrutores was transferred. This transfer was to the CIEAR. The EAOAR focused entirely on advanced training. In 1990 the school introduced distance learning. This was a significant step towards modernizing its methods. This distant learning was expanded until 1998. It catered to officers in various specializations. It also included women officers.

A major milestone came in 2006. The Advanced Training course incorporated a specialization in management. Graduates received a postgraduate certificate. This postgraduate certificate was in Public Management from Universidade Federal Fluminense. Since 2012 this specialization has been renamed. It’s now Public Management and Air Force Employment certified by UNIFA.

More recently the EAOAR has adapted to new challenges. It currently uses a three-module system. Two modules are online. The third is in person. This revised structure spans a year and a half. The curriculum covers project management textual production leadership and more. Today the EAOAR continues its commitment to excellence. It incorporates active learning methods and technology. It strives to provide a relevant and updated education. The EAOAR prepares officers to serve the Brazilian Air Force with passion and professionalism. The EAOAR’s legacy is one of continuous improvement and dedication to producing highly skilled Air Force officers.
