A 200-meter canvas unfolds before you. This is the Oceans Wall in Lisbon a vibrant testament to marine life and environmental awareness.

The Oceans Wall isn’t just a mural. It’s a collaborative project. Twelve artists contributed their unique styles. Their work aims to highlight the beauty and fragility of the Atlantic Ocean. It promotes the conservation of marine species. Many of these species are threatened by human activity. You can even see some of the depicted creatures at the Lisbon Oceanarium.

Look closely. You’ll see moonfish seahorses and rays. Familiar Portuguese species like sardines tuna swordfish sharks and whales also appear. Each artist offers a unique interpretation. Jaqueline Arashida merges marine life with vegetation and geometry. Daniela Guerreiro’s art emphasizes humanity’s role in both destroying and saving ocean ecosystems. Franky Sticks’ design playfully reflects the saying “Not everything that comes into the net is fish”. Mariana Rio’s scene combines real and imaginary species.

The project was a joint effort. It involved Crack Kids Lisboa Galeria de Arte Urbana and Visit Portugal 2023. The Lisbon Oceanarium and the Curry Cabral Hospital also participated. The hospital provided the 200-meter wall the perfect blank canvas for this ambitious endeavor. The wall itself is located in the city center between Rua Laura Alves and Rua Ivone Silva.

The Oceans Wall is more than just a pretty picture. It’s a powerful message. It serves as a reminder of the vital importance of the ocean. Think about it. Portugal’s Exclusive Economic Zone is the third largest in the European Union. Its ocean area is eighteen times bigger than its land area. The Portuguese coastline stretches over 2800 kilometers. This immense ocean resource demands protection. The wall underscores the need for sustainable tourism and responsible fishing practices. Every small gesture toward ocean conservation makes a difference.

As you stand here admiring the art consider its significance. The Oceans Wall is a powerful symbol. It combines science art and tourism. Its message is one of urgent preservation. Remember the beauty you’ve seen. Carry the message of conservation forward. Let the Oceans Wall inspire you to protect our precious oceans.
