Right before us hangs Untitled Installation. It is a piece that might make you pause and ponder. What stories does it hold? What vision did the artist have in mind when creating it?
Untitled Installation is the work of Jacqueline “Jackie” Winsor. It was created in 1993. This artwork lives within the Seattle Convention Center. The convention center has a public art program. It enriches the experience of all who visit. Phyllis Lamphere founded the program. It has been a popular feature since the center opened in 1988. The program features over 100 works.
Initially, art was part of the building design. This was thanks to the State’s Percent for the Arts program. Since then, the Seattle Convention Center has grown its collection. The collection is accessible in the Arch building. You can visit it free of charge.
The Summit building also expanded the collection. The collection at Summit promotes connections to communities. It also draws inspiration from the Pacific Northwest’s diverse cultures. The Summit art program has free-standing artworks. These artworks were commissioned for the project. Artistic elements were integrated into the architecture. Dozens of existing studio works were bought for exhibition.
The permanent collection in the Arch building includes gifts. It also includes long-term loans from artists. These gifts and loans come from galleries and governmental entities. They also come from corporations, foundations, and private collectors.
Well-known artists are represented in the collection. They include Alfredo Arreguin and Hilda Morris. Alden Mason and Jenny Holzer are also featured. Don’t forget James Washington, Jr. and Tony Angell. Margaret Tomkins and Kenneth Callahan also have pieces here. You can see works by Michael Spafford and Richard Gilkey. Guy Anderson, Ron Hilbert, Paul Horiuchi, and Nancy Mee are also represented.
Some popular works include Lebeg by Ann Gardner. You can also find Games by Jacob Lawrence here. The Spirits Within is by Alfredo Arreguin. A Procession by Patty Warashina is another favorite. The Summit collection features 23 commissioned artists.
These artists were selected through open calls. Some were selected by invitation. Others came through limited call processes. The commissioned artists include Maikoiyo Alley-Barnes and Romson Regarde Bustillo. Kate Clark and Claire Cowie are also featured. Kimberly Deriana and RYAN! Feddersen also have works here. John Feodorov and Malynn Foster add to the collection. Robert Hardgrave and Lauren Iida are also included. Christopher Paul Jordan and Kenji Stoll also contributed. Satpreet Kahlon and Sheila Klein have pieces on display. Ulises Mariscal and Christian Moeller are part of the collection. Cathy McClure and Danielle Morsette are also featured. Joseph Steininger and Maki Tamura add to the diversity. Finally, Dan Webb, Andrea M. Wilbur-Sigo, and Jennifer Angaiak Wood round out the list. 37 artists are featured in the Studio Works sub-set.
The Northwest Watercolor Society has works here too. It showcases the achievements of its Signature Members. These members have earned the highest honors offered by the society. The Northwest Watercolor Society was founded in 1939. It has grown in international stature. It has opened its membership to water media artists worldwide.
Untitled Installation itself consists of colored plaster. Wood, fiberglass, and neon are also part of the piece. The artwork is supported by the ceiling. It is a testament to Winsor’s unique vision.
