How about stepping back in time to explore the story of First Orthodox Presbyterian Church? First Orthodox Presbyterian Church stands as a testament to faith. It stands as a community in the heart of San Francisco.

First Orthodox Presbyterian Church’s story is tied to a sister church in Sunnyvale. In the mid-1950s, the Santa Clara Valley was full of orchards. Apricots, cherries and prune trees thrived here. Engineers in Palo Alto and Mountain View worked on integrated circuits. These circuits would lead to computers and the internet. This transformation turned Santa Clara Valley into Silicon Valley. During this time, Henry Coray, a former missionary to China, began a local mission. This mission led to the formation of First Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Sunnyvale on September 17, 1956.

Sixty years later, First OPC of Sunnyvale thrived. It was a congregation of Reformed Christians in Silicon Valley. Its members reflected the international community. Some grew up in the area. Others moved from different parts of the world. They came to share the excitement of the Bay Area industries. Technology and society changed constantly. Yet, the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ remained relevant.

First OPC is part of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. This larger church began in 1936. J. Gresham Machen led the way. The denomination formed because they believed the world needed the original gospel. Not a new modern version. They desired to worship, serve, and witness. They wanted to stay true to Scripture. They honored the historic Christian faith. Especially the Reformed faith. After decades, OPC congregations spread across the USA. OPC missionaries serve in various parts of the world.
