Established in 1936, First English Lutheran Church holds the distinction of being Austin’s first entirely English-speaking Lutheran congregation. Back then, German and other European languages were the norm in many churches. The congregation sought to create a space where everyone, regardless of their native tongue, could connect with their faith. The sanctuary you see before you, with its stately presence, was completed a few years later, in 1939. Over the years, First English Lutheran Church has been a beacon of faith and inclusivity in Austin. It has seen the city transform around it, yet its commitment to the community has never wavered. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith, community, and the simple beauty of a shared language.
