In 1886, that dream took root when Benjamin and Erixna Caroline McFarlin donated four acres of land. This generous gift was for the construction of the Ovilla Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and a sacred burial ground. The earliest marked grave, however, predates this official founding. Rebecca Summers McElroy, wife of Tom C. McElroy, rests beneath the earth marked with the year 1884. Her story, along with hundreds of others, is etched into the landscape of Ovilla Cemetery.
