“Be The Church To The Unchurched”. This is the calling of Sojourn Church. It encapsulates the heart of this community. Sojourn Church is more than just a place of worship. It is a mission to connect with those who feel disconnected.
Sojourn Church’s journey began humbly. In 1982, Christian businessman Terry Moore and his wife Susan started a small group in their home. Their lives had been transformed by an encounter with the Holy Spirit. By 1987, that small group had blossomed into a church. They met in a building off Sojourn Drive in Addison, Texas.
Since then, Sojourn Church has been involved in numerous spiritual movements. These include Catch the Fire Toronto and March for Jesus Dallas. They also participated in Light the Nation. In 1995, Sojourn helped establish Trinity Church Dallas. Trinity Church meets just north of downtown Dallas. In 2001, Sojourn planted Lighthouse Christian Fellowship. This church is in the Prosper area of Collin County. Sojourn has hosted meetings with prominent leaders. These leaders include Bill Johnson, Bob Hazlett, and Mark Rutland.
Sojourn Church is a non-denominational, Spirit-filled congregation. It welcomes anyone seeking God. This includes people from the postmodern movement. Some members, especially during the 2nd service, come from postmodernism.
The church’s vision is clear. It wants to see spiritually healthy people. They want to be disciples making a difference. They want to impact their world for Jesus and His Kingdom.
The mission of Sojourn Church is equally direct. It is to make disciples of Jesus. These disciples will advance the Kingdom of God. Sojourn believes in key foundational principles. God is Love and a Good Father. Jesus fully expresses the Father and is the living Word. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to advance God’s Kingdom. The Kingdom of God was the core message Jesus taught.
Sojourn Church offers various ministries and events. There are Wednesday night services at 7:00 PM. “In The Word” events occur on Wednesday nights. Epic events are also scheduled. GriefShare Spring sessions take place. Monday Night Prayer meetings are held. i58 Ministries organizes community food distribution. Care Center Day Camp offers volunteer opportunities. There are also Personal Freedom Ministry events. The Gathering Place meets monthly. Encounter Nights are held periodically. Boots On The Ground events occur. First Responders are honored with lunch and dinner. An Easter Egg Hunt brings joy to the community. Baptisms are conducted. Next Steps for Spiritual Growth sessions are available.
Pastor Chris McRae became the Senior Pastor on January 5, 2020. He continues to build on the church’s vision. He wants to see spiritually healthy people making a difference. Pastor Chris began his Sojourn journey at age 19. He moved from Arkansas to attend Christ for the Nations Institute. There he met his wife, Vanessa. He volunteered and was a church member for over three years. Pastor Chris joined the staff in 1999. He has worked in children’s ministry, youth ministry, and outreach. He regularly preaches at church meetings. He is a graduate of King’s University.
Terry Moore is the Founding Pastor and an Elder. He says, “We continue to be amazed at the opportunities before us. The Lord is truly good and He orders our steps. We can truly say that God is Faithful.”
Sojourn Church encourages people to encounter, believe, and belong. It invites everyone to know Jesus. It encourages continuous growth into His image. Sojourn calls on people to seek first His Kingdom. It calls on them to know the love of the Father. They should know the grace of Jesus and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
