For fourteen long years The Salvation Army Bexleyheath community worshipped elsewhere. They met in a nearby Methodist church. Their own building was just a dream. Then a new purpose-built church and community center rose on Lion Road. The official opening in March 2022 was a joyous occasion. Commissioner Anthony Cotterill the Territorial Commander presided.
The new building boasts a worship hall. There are also two other halls and a kitchen. It’s a modern space designed to serve the community. Major Richard Welch the church leader arrived just in time. He witnessed this historic move. He praised the congregation’s patience and perseverance.
More than a place of worship The Salvation Army Bexleyheath is a vital community hub. It offers a Warm Welcome Space. This provides free tea coffee biscuits soup and rolls to those struggling financially. Free WiFi and accessible toilets are available too.
The church actively reaches out to those in need. They work with Bexleyheath Winter Shelter. They provide meals to the homeless.
