AR22 served as a critical defense point for Mainz. The soldiers stationed at AR22 would have had a panoramic view of the surrounding terrain. They were tasked with repelling any advancing enemy forces. The three-sided embankment, still visible today as a gentle slope, would have protected the artillery crews from enemy fire. The inscription “Keine” adds a layer of mystery to AR22. It’s a stark reminder of the deliberate anonymity surrounding such military installations. It hints at the secrecy and strategic importance of AR22 during the war. Today, AR22 stands silent. It is a forgotten testament to the tumultuous past. The echoes of wartime urgency have faded.
