Deep in West Gippsland lies a hidden gem called Tynong North. Tynong North is a locality 63 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. It sits within the Shire of Cardinia. In 2021, Tynong North recorded a population of 440.

Tynong North is special because of its location. The Princes Freeway separates it from Tynong. Tynong sits on the edge of a reclaimed swamp. Tynong North is at the foot of the Weatherhead Range mountains. It is next to Bunyip State Park and the Weatherhead Forest Reserve.

Tynong, a neighbouring town, has its own story. Tynong was settled in the early 1880s. Its post office opened on November 1, 1882. Tynong is known for the granodiorite quarried there. This stone was used to build Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance.

Gumbuya World, Pakenham Racecourse, and Mill Valley Ranch are also near Tynong. Tynong has a railway station.
