High above the Bornheimer Stadtteil Brenig stands the Wasserturm Brenig. A majestic brick structure it once served a vital purpose. This isn’t just any water tower. It’s a silent witness to a century of Bonn’s history.

Built in 1907 the Wasserturm Brenig was commissioned by the Deutz-Mülheimer Motorenwerke. Its purpose was clear to provide water to the nearby villages of Brenig and Bornheim. The tower itself is a marvel. Standing approximately 15 meters tall it boasts a round base around seven meters in diameter. The tower gracefully tapers towards the top.

Atop this sturdy brickwork sits a water tank. This tank isn’t ordinary. It features a rotating steel platform. This platform was further enhanced with a Rabitz plaster cladding and a distinctive overhanging tent roof. A glass dome crowns the structure. This dome offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.

Imagine the scene in 1907. The newly constructed water tower stood proudly. Water was pumped into the tank above. It flowed freely down into the houses a testament to modern engineering. This dependable service continued for 50 years. In 1957 the Wasserturm Brenig was decommissioned. Finally in 1964 it officially ceased operation.

But the story doesn’t end there. In 1986 the Wasserturm Brenig achieved landmark status. Three years later a private individual purchased it from the Euskirchener Gaswerke. The transformation began. It was officially redesigned as a single-family home.

Subsequent renovations have given this historic structure a new lease on life. Today the Wasserturm Brenig functions as more than just a home. It serves as a unique conference center and a charming restaurant. Concerts often grace its top platform. The glass dome continues to offer stunning views a testament to the foresight of those who built it.

Stand here before the Wasserturm Brenig. Feel its presence. It’s not just bricks and mortar. It’s a living monument a story of engineering innovation and community resilience. It’s a symbol of Bonn’s rich past seamlessly woven into its present. This water tower has witnessed countless sunrises and sunsets. It will continue to stand tall a silent observer of life in Bonn.
