Roisdorf

Anno 1876 a significant year for Roisdorf. That’s the year Wilhelm Custor leased the Roisdorf spring. It belonged to the Counts of Alfter Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck. He laid the foundation for the Mineralquellen GmbH & Co. KG. You can still see the year on the gable of the spring house. Roisdorf a small village near Bonn has a fascinating history. Its mineral spring was likely known even in Roman times. In the 1830s many coins and ceramics were found in the spring shaft. Many dated from the beginning of the 4th century. In 1774 medical student Franz Wilhelm Kauhlen discovered the healing power of the water. In the 19th century it became an export item. Plans to develop Roisdorf into a spa town were less successful. There was however lively spa activity around the spring. It was a popular excursion destination for people from Bonn and Cologne. The Roisdorf spring is today a stop on the Beethoven tour. The Brunnenpark a small park with a pond and a pavilion was built near the spring. It’s based on a historical model. The Bornheimer Quellenweg a new walking trail starts at the Brunnenpark. It highlights Bornheim’s historical water supply systems. Roisdorf a captivating blend of history and nature awaits exploration.
