Park your car carefully. Then approach Gate 63 at Leipzig/Halle Airport. This is Spotterpunkt 4 – Tor 63.

Spotterpunkt 4 – Tor 63 offers a unique vantage point. It’s ideal for aviation enthusiasts. Here, you can observe aircraft taxiing. They use Taxiway C for Runway 26R departures. You can also view arrivals on 26R and departures on 08L.

If the plane is on the runway parts may be cut off. This is more likely if the lawn isn’t mowed. So keep this in mind when you visit Spotterpunkt 4 – Tor 63.

Light conditions are best at Spotterpunkt 4 – Tor 63 all day in winter. On summer days, visit from late morning until late afternoon. That’s roughly 9 AM to 6 PM.

To get closer to the runway and avoid trees use a ladder. When special planes arrive this spot fills up. If there is no parking turn left at the crossroad. Then turn right after crossing under the bridge. Additional parking is available there.

Focal lengths vary at Spotterpunkt 4 – Tor 63. Use 20-300mm for the taxiway. A 30mm lens works well for a Boeing 757-300. For the runway use 160mm for an Antonov AN-124. A 220mm lens is good for a Boeing 737-800.

To reach Spotterpunkt 4 – Tor 63 follow Towerstraße from VDA Technics. Head towards Freiroda. Turn left into Wellerstrasse. Then take the first left again at the next crossroad. Follow the road to Gate 63. Park on the left side on the small concrete pad. It has space for about five cars.

At Spotterpunkt 4 – Tor 63 take photos through the bars of the gate. You can also walk eastwards. You will come to a small mound. From there you can take photos over the fence. This avoids the bars.
