The Mus\u00e9e d’Art et d’Histoire Louis Senlecq wasn’t always here. It started in 1950. The original location was the Maison des Jos\u00e9phites. Prince Armand de Bourbon Conti built it around 1660.
Fast forward to 2006. The museum moved to the Centre d’art Jacques Henri Lartigue. This center was inaugurated in 1998. It now bears the museum’s name. The Mus\u00e9e d’Art et d’Histoire Louis Senlecq proudly carries the label “Mus\u00e9e de France”. It earned this honor in 2002.
The Mus\u00e9e d’Art et d’Histoire Louis Senlecq owes its existence to Dr. Louis Senlecq. He was the mayor of L’Isle-Adam. In 1939, he founded the association “Les Amis de L’Isle-Adam”. Its goal was to highlight the region’s history.
Inside the Mus\u00e9e d’Art et d’Histoire Louis Senlecq, discover a treasure trove of art. Admire paintings from the School of the Oise banks. Jules Dupr\u00e9 led this movement. Study Italian drawings by Jules Romain Joyant. Marvel at almost 200 terracotta figurines. They depict L’Isle-Adam’s terracotta production from the late 19th century to the 1950s.
The Mus\u00e9e d’Art et d’Histoire Louis Senlecq’s collections began with donations. Later, national museums added to the collection. These included the Louvre, the Mus\u00e9e d’Orsay, and the Ch\u00e2teau de Versailles. Today, the Mus\u00e9e d’Art et d’Histoire Louis Senlecq boasts around 4,000 works.
On the ground floor of the Mus\u00e9e d’Art et d’Histoire Louis Senlecq, explore permanent exhibits. One room is dedicated to the Princes of Conti. Another displays terracotta works by Joseph Le Guluche. A third showcases paintings by Jules Dupr\u00e9.
Upstairs in the Mus\u00e9e d’Art et d’Histoire Louis Senlecq, rotating exhibitions await. These “Regards sur les collections” feature pieces from the museum’s holdings. Temporary exhibitions also connect to local history. Other exhibitions highlight contemporary creations.
