Michel Colucci, better known as Coluche, lives on in Montrouge. Right here, in the Place de la Libération, stands the “Salopette d’Or” statue. It’s a bronze tribute to the beloved comedian, capturing his signature style: overalls and Doc Martens. The Salopette d’Or statue was unveiled on a Tuesday in June 2011, marking 25 years since his tragic passing. Coluche’s family, including his wife Vronique and sons Marius and César, spearheaded this project. They chose Montrouge, the place where Michel Colucci spent his youth, as the perfect location for the Salopette d’Or. The statue isn’t just a physical representation. It embodies the spirit of Coluche, a man who used humor to challenge societal norms. He wasn’t just a comedian; he was a social commentator, a political agitator, and a humanitarian. The inscription on the Salopette d’Or reads, “A Coluche, Enfant de Montrouge 1944-1986,” a touching reminder of his roots and the impact he made during his short life. The statue has had its own journey. It was removed for a time, then returned to its rightful place in June 2019. The Salopette d’Or statue stands as a symbol of laughter, social consciousness, and the enduring legacy of Coluche. He may be gone, but his spirit, captured in bronze, continues to inspire and provoke.
