Let me share a story from not so long ago. In January, the Parish celebrated the feast day of Saint Basil the Great. Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta conveyed warm wishes from Archbishop Makarios of Australia. Bishop Themistocles of Nicopolis also attended. He delivered a sermon about finding ourselves through faith. Bishop Evmenios emphasized the importance of change within ourselves. He encouraged everyone to become the salt of the earth and the light of the world. The Parish celebrated the 100th anniversary of its foundation.
Step inside the Parish of Saint Vasilios. You will find more than just a place of worship. Since 1962, St Vasilios Greek Language School teaches language and culture. The school fosters a love for the Greek language. It also instills an appreciation for the Orthodox faith. The school’s curriculum follows Victorian standards. Students learn conversational skills and religion. They also learn about Greek culture through dance, film, and song.
Imagine the children preparing for school events. They re-enact poetry and mythology. They perform short stories and historical events. The school publishes an annual magazine called “To Fanaraki”.
