“Why Selves?” a visitor once asked. The Avenue de Selves awaits us. It is a slice of Parisian history tucked neatly in the 8th arrondissement.

This avenue is not grand in size. It stretches a mere 110 meters. That makes it Paris’s second shortest avenue. Yet, its story is rich. The Avenue de Selves links Avenue des Champs-Élysées to Avenue du Général-Eisenhower.

The Avenue de Selves got its name in 1934. It honors Justin de Selves. He was a president of the Senate. He also served as Prefect of the Seine. Furthermore, he founded the Commission du Vieux Paris. This commission played a vital role in preserving Paris’s historical heritage.

Interestingly, the avenue was once longer. In 1970, part of it was taken. This created the Avenue du Général-Eisenhower. The section between Place Clemenceau and Avenue Franklin-D.-Roosevelt disappeared.

You can reach the Avenue de Selves easily. The Champs-Élysées – Clemenceau metro station is nearby. Lines 1 and 13 serve this station.

Imagine Justin de Selves walking here. Picture him overseeing the city’s preservation. He championed the cause of old Paris. This short avenue reminds us of his dedication.

The Avenue de Selves is more than just a street. It’s a tribute. It embodies Parisian history. Its short length belies its significance. So next time you’re on the Champs-Élysées, take a small detour. Discover the Avenue de Selves. It’s a quiet corner with a story to tell. It whispers tales of Parisian heritage and a man who cared. Justin de Selves made a difference. The Avenue de Selves stands as a reminder of his work. It is a small street with a big legacy.
