Let’s step back to 2012. This is when the Cathedral Campus of Harvest Chicago Cathedral was launched. It was a bold move into the heart of downtown Chicago. But the roots of Harvest Bible Chapel go back further. They began with just 18 people. These people gathered from different churches. They all shared a desire to create something new.
From this vision, four pillars emerged. These pillars were unapologetic preaching, unashamed adoration, unceasing prayer, and unafraid witness. These principles framed the foundation upon which Harvest Bible Chapel was built. It officially launched on September 18, 1988. They first met at Rolling Meadows High School.
Over time, the congregation grew. After seven years, they secured a former warehouse. The first service in this new house of God was held on September 10, 1995. The church continued to expand. In 2003, they acquired the Elgin Campus. The Green family, founders of Hobby Lobby, gifted the property for one dollar.
Driven by a vision to plant churches, Harvest Bible Chapel established Harvest Bible Fellowship in 2002. The goal was ambitious. It was to plant ten churches in ten years. They celebrated 100 church plants in just 14 years by 2014.
In September 2009, Harvest began its ministry in the heart of Chicago. They started with a mobile campus. Services were held on Sunday nights at a school in Wicker Park. Then in 2012, a historical landmark was reclaimed. It was the Scottish Rite Cathedral. This became the Chicago Cathedral Campus of Harvest Bible Chapel.
