Navigating the twists and turns of Lyon, we arrive at Rue Omer Louis. This seemingly unassuming street holds a unique charm. Rue Omer Louis begins its journey at Avenue Lacassagne. It stretches southward, concluding its path at Rue Trarieux, directly across from the Grange Blanche pathways. Rue Omer Louis isn’t just a street; it’s a microcosm of Lyon’s architectural diversity. Initially, it’s flanked by the imposing apartment blocks of Avenue Lacassagne. Four of these structures still stand. However, the street’s character quickly shifts. It meanders through rows of quaint houses. At number 3 Rue Omer Louis, a curious architectural quirk awaits. The building features a rounded protrusion, ingeniously designed to accommodate passing cars. Further down, at 9 bis Rue Omer Louis, a small, two-story building stands discreetly behind a hedge. As Rue Omer Louis approaches its end, the buildings on either side become more spacious. Some houses boast garages, courtyards, or gardens. The barrier at number 17 is particularly noteworthy. Its posts are adorned with obelisk-like structures and crowned with decorative dice. The street’s name, Rue Omer Louis, honors Louis Philibert Antoine Omer Kerviel, the original owner of the land upon which the street was built. Rue Omer Louis emerged in the early 20th century. Today, it’s home to a few local businesses. Among them are a painter’s studio and “Helmut,” a shop renowned for its impressive selection of beers. Rue Omer Louis may not be Lyon’s grandest avenue. But its blend of architectural styles and quiet charm offers a glimpse into the city’s rich history and character.
