Jørgen Carlo Larsen created this artwork in 2014. His aim was simple. He wanted to enhance the environment without overwhelming it. The sculptures are subtle yet captivating. They add a touch of artistry to the daily lives of residents staff and visitors.
Each sculpture resembles a slim scaffold. It’s made of stainless steel. Its organic form echoes traditional courtyard decorations. Think of a fountain surrounded by plants. The sculptures stand 2.75 meters high. Their diameter is about 0.9 meters. They act as subtle landmarks. The courtyards are almost identical. Larsen cleverly solved this issue by using differently colored glass plates in each sculpture.
Larsen’s process was intuitive. He worked from a small wooden model. He didn’t strictly follow the model. He let the sculpture evolve organically. He even incorporated “controlled accidents” from the welding process. These imperfections add to the unique character of each piece.
Despite their delicate appearance the sculptures are incredibly stable. They are built using lightweight construction principles. This ensures that they are sturdy and resilient. Each sculpture features a light at the top and a plant in an over sized wine bottle. A colored glass plate adds a splash of color. The existing stone paving was replaced by a new wooden floor.
