Green Street Green was once a small hamlet situated on the coaching routes from London to Sussex. The area didn’t see much development until Fox & Sons opened their brewery in 1836. Village life centered around the brewery until it closed in 1909 and left the village in dire straits. The area managed to recover, and Green Street Green became famous as a meeting point for cyclists in the 1920s. Several tea rooms opened, attracting hordes of cyclists from London. You can still see Mrs. Valentine Moon’s former teashop on the east side of Sevenoaks Road across from The Green. The brewery site is now a housing estate after being used by Telcon Plastics before the Second World War. Today, Green Street Green is a quiet corner of south-east London steeped in history.
