A century of faith echoes within these walls of Manchaca Baptist Church. Here at 1215 FM 1626, a small group of believers gathered in 1918, led by Rev. Webb Townsley. Manchaca Baptist Church began with just ten members, a testament to the power of faith to ignite a community. The church has grown significantly over the years. Today, Manchaca Baptist Church embraces nearly 1,500 members, with around 250 attending Sunday services. The church’s history is intertwined with the growth and transformation of Manchaca itself. The original wooden structure, built in 1925 for a mere $1,800, served as a beacon of hope during a time of change. As the landscape shifted from livery stables and cotton gins to a growing residential area, Manchaca Baptist Church adapted and expanded. In 1960, a new red brick sanctuary marked a significant milestone. Later, a nearby elementary school was acquired, further demonstrating the church’s commitment to community. Tragedy struck in 2001 when a fire severely damaged the newly constructed sanctuary, just weeks before its opening. However, the resilient spirit of Manchaca Baptist Church prevailed. The sanctuary was rebuilt and finally opened its doors in 2004, a symbol of the church’s unwavering faith. Manchaca Baptist Church’s mission extends beyond its walls. The church has a long-standing commitment to serving the community. From fall festivals and vacation Bible school to providing essential resources like food, clothing, and medical equipment, the church actively embodies its core belief in loving others. Manchaca Baptist Church’s statement of faith underscores its dedication to discipleship and spiritual growth. It emphasizes the importance of loving God with all one’s heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving one’s neighbor as oneself. Through worship, fellowship, learning, serving, and missions, Manchaca Baptist Church strives to nurture these principles.
