In 1964, Félix Candela’s architectural genius gifted Chapultepec Park a unique structure. This structure, originally the maintenance workshop for the beloved “little train,” now stands as Espacio CDMX. Espacio CDMX is more than just a building. It’s a resurrected memory, a testament to the city’s evolving identity. For over fifteen years, it lay abandoned, a forgotten relic of childhood joyrides. Then, in 2018, as Mexico City embraced its role as World Design Capital, Espacio CDMX was reborn. The building’s restoration carefully preserved Candela’s iconic inverted umbrellas, a hallmark of his innovative style. The three naves, stripped of unnecessary detail, offer a versatile canvas for exhibitions and events. Espacio CDMX isn’t just a gallery. It’s a vibrant hub, hosting everything from design showcases to thought-provoking conferences. During Design Week Mexico in 2018, Espacio CDMX showcased the works of international architects, drawing visitors into the world of contemporary design. The space continues to evolve, mirroring Mexico City’s dynamic spirit.
