Masjid Al-Falah wasn’t always here. Its story begins much earlier with the Angulia Mosque at Angulia Park now home to Wheelock Place. As Orchard Road underwent redevelopment older mosques had to relocate. Masjid Al-Falah opened in 1987 filling the void. It became Singapore’s first mosque situated within a commercial building a testament to adaptability and faith in the heart of a modern city.
Imagine the scene in 1987. Dr Ahmad Mattar then Minister for Environment and Minister-In-charge of Muslim Affairs officially opened the mosque. It was a momentous occasion a symbol of progress and inclusivity in a rapidly changing Singapore. Over the years Masjid Al-Falah has grown. In 2008 it underwent its first renovation. Classrooms and facilities were improved. A focus on teaching Islamic knowledge in English brought in a new wave of congregants. Then in 2015 came the major upgrade. The building owners generously expanded the mosque’s space. The prayer hall doubled in size. New washrooms and ablution areas were added making it more accessible to everyone including those with disabilities.
Today Masjid Al-Falah stands as a vibrant community hub. It serves Muslims of all races from Singapore and beyond. It’s known for its strong youth movement organizing exciting camps and trips. Its family development unit strengthens the bonds of community. It truly lives up to its name Al-Falah meaning success.
