Picture a building humming with unseen activity. That’s Telehouse South, a crucial hub in London’s Docklands. It is not just another building. Telehouse South is a gateway to a world of data, connectivity, and innovation.

Telehouse South opened in spring 2022. It quickly became a vital part of the Telehouse London Docklands campus. The campus already had four data centers. Telehouse South added much-needed space to this important network hub. This ensured London maintains its position as a top connectivity ecosystem in the UK and Europe.

Originally, the building was the Thomson Reuters London Docklands Technical Centre. Telehouse acquired it in 2021. In less than a year, they transformed it. The first phase offered space for 668 racks and 2MW of power. More upgrades followed.

Telehouse South now boasts impressive stats. It has a gross area of 31,000 square meters. Each floor can hold 668 rack footprints. These racks can support high power densities. Standard racks get 4.5kW each.

Power is a priority at Telehouse South. The facility has an 18MW total power capacity. This equates to 2.7MW per floor. It features dual redundant power feeds. N+1 redundancy generators and 2N UPS configuration are in place. This ensures uninterrupted service.

Sustainability is also key. Telehouse South uses 100% renewable energy. This power comes from wind, solar, biomass, and hydro generators. A new cooling system improves efficiency. It uses free-cooling air-cooled chillers. This reduces water usage. An intelligent control system optimizes power usage.

Connectivity is a major draw. Telehouse South provides access to a dense network. Over 1,000 carriers, ISPs, and cloud providers are connected here. A diverse Dark Fibre network links Telehouse South to the main Docklands campus. This network contains over 3,000 single-mode Dark Fibres.

The facility’s location is strategic. It sits near the City and Canary Wharf. This offers low-latency connectivity to London’s financial district.

Telehouse has invested heavily in Telehouse South. The total investment will reach £280 million once fully developed. Future plans include more colocation space.

Telehouse chose to refurbish the existing building. This was faster and more sustainable than building new. The original building was purpose-built in 1989.

Takayo Takamuro, Managing Director of Telehouse Europe, emphasizes security, sustainability, and operational excellence. These high standards benefit Telehouse’s data center customers.

Telehouse South uses waterless free cooling chillers. These chillers use external temperature to reject heat. This allows free cooling throughout the year.

Telehouse South is more than just a data center. It is a critical part of London’s digital infrastructure.
