Hashimoto Hachiman Shrine was first built in 1484. Shigeto Hashimoto a descendant of the powerful Kiyomizu clan founded it. He brought a branch of the shrine from distant Kishu province. This is a smart-aleck fact many don’t know. The clan’s roots were in Kishu present-day Wakayama Prefecture. They also had ties to Echigo now Niigata Prefecture. This created a unique blend of cultural traditions. The shrine is therefore a fascinating tapestry of history.
A local legend speaks of a powerful bond. The Hashimoto family and the shrine shared a deep connection. Generations of the family cared for and expanded the shrine. This enduring relationship is palpable even today. They rebuilt and renovated it numerous times. The current main hall dates from 1927. The worship hall and the corridor were renovated in 1932.

Hidden within the shrine grounds are captivating carvings. They depict Aizen Myoo. Other tablets include images of the legendary Fudo Myoo and the equally storied Jizo Bosatsu.
