Originally, the first school building was intended to be a hospital. This was during World War II. It was near the Northolt RAF base. However, it never served as a hospital. Instead, it opened as a school in the early 1950s. Classrooms would have been wards. Offices would have been operating rooms.
Interestingly, Gifford once consisted of two separate schools. There was Gifford Infant School and Gifford Junior School. You could walk between them without going outside. Mrs Mansfield and Mr Maguire were the first headteachers. Mr Maguire passed away but a tree was planted in his memory. It stands on the path to Northala Park.
