Hidden between Gávea Pequena and São Conrado, Morro do Cochrane rises, a majestic peak in the Serra da Carioca sector of Tijuca National Park. Morro do Cochrane isn’t just one summit. It boasts two distinct peaks. The highest reaches 718 meters, a proud pinnacle named Cochrane’s Peak. The second, gazing over Gávea, is known as Ponta das Andorinhas, reaching 675 meters. Its slopes are a tapestry of imposing rock faces interwoven with the rich, green embrace of Tijuca National Park’s forest. The mountain takes its name from Thomas Cochrane, a Scottish homeopathic physician. Dr. Cochrane owned an estate in Gávea Pequena in the 19th century, leaving his mark on the landscape. While the peak beckons adventurers, there are currently no authorized trails to its summit. So, we admire its beauty from afar, imagining the views from its heights.
