It’s true, this isn’t your typical historical landmark. The Historic Water Tower, you see, stands as a testament to both Victorian ingenuity and, surprisingly, the conservation of nature. Built in an era when London’s thirst seemed unquenchable, this tower, like many others, ensured a steady water supply to a rapidly growing city. What sets this particular tower apart however, is its unexpected residents: a colony of pipistrelle bats. Imagine these tiny creatures, flitting in and out of the tower at dusk, their presence a sharp contrast to the Victorian brick and mortar. While the sight might seem unusual, it was these very bats that played a pivotal role in the tower’s preservation.
