Have you ever wondered what life was like for shoppers in the 1980s? 17 & Central, which once stood as Selborne Walk Shopping Centre, was a bustling place back then. Built in 1988, it was the place to be for everything from groceries to fashion. People flocked to the centre to browse the shops and catch up with friends. It was a community hub, a place where people could find everything they needed under one roof. But times change, and the centre, like many others, eventually fell victim to the rise of online shopping. Today, you can still see the ghosts of its former glory in the grand structure, which is now being redeveloped into a mixed-use scheme. But, if you look closely, you can almost hear the echoes of laughter and chatter, the clinking of shopping trolleys, and the scent of freshly baked bread.
