Let’s step back to February 2, 2019. Neighbors and interested locals were invited to an open house. They got a firsthand look at this new facility. City officials and the operator explained the support concept. They also answered questions. Dr. Kristin Klaudia Kaufmann, the Social Affairs Mayor, attended. The first residents moved in on February 4. The building provides 50 places. Previously, it served as a military hospital and an annex of the Klotzsche Gymnasium. The building is accessible. Some rooms and sanitary facilities are wheelchair-accessible. The city invested 385,000 euros in the conversion.

In Dresden, there are 291 places in seven transitional homes for homeless people. There are also 47 places in guaranteed apartments. Ten emergency sleeping places are available from December to March. They provide short-term overnight accommodation. This supplements regular housing in homes and apartments.
