Highland Park Methodist Church Building Plaque

The church was founded in 1916, just months before the opening of the campus of Southern Methodist University. It was known as University MECS. The name quickly changed to Highland Park MECS when students joined forces with Methodists in the newly formed Town of Highland Park. It grew quickly and in 1917 they built a temporary church building called “The Little Brown Church” near their present site. It wasn’t until 1927 that they consecrated the present gothic-inspired structure. The church has seen multiple renovations over the years. One of the most notable being the addition of the Tolleson Family Activity Center, now the home of the Belong Disability Ministry and Family Ministry, a testament to the ever-expanding reach of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Today, the church stands as a beacon of faith for the community, a testament to the power of community and a constant reminder of the unwavering commitment to helping people become followers of Christ.
